MARSIG is partner and coordinator of the R&D project MEmBran "Modelling of Emissions and Fuel Consumption during Manoeuvring of Ships" (Modellierung von Emissionen und Brennstoffverbrauch beim Manövrieren von Schiffen). MARSIG is involved in the development of an innovative assistance system to evaluate efficient fuel consumption of ships. During the project, the existing experience with SEEMP and MRV procedures will be integrated in the development of new concepts and systems.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi)

The research project “Strategic Route planning — A challenge for waterway crossing ferries (StRout)” intends to develop a method to include the actual traffic situation at sea in the strategic route planning process. Aiming to reduce evasive manoeuvring and thus improving the fuel consumption and subsequent emissions. This should also result in a more punctual sailing schedule and generally in an optimized ship’s operation.
Main goal is the development of a prototype to demonstrate the technological status under simulated operating conditions.
MARSIG mbH (coordinator) is responsible for the data collection and management and development of a graphical user interface to be used by navigating officers. Additional project partners are the DLR (German Aerospace Center) responsible for detection and qualification of the traffic situation and relevant input data and the SIW (Schifffahrtsinstitut Warnemünde) responsible for the calculation of an optimised route recommendation with respective waypoints for efficient manoeuvring.
The project is funded by the German Federal State Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
